"NOT" Drunk Driving
The California Highway Patrol wasn't sure if it was alcohol or drugs, but initially actor Nick Nolte was arrested for not passing a field sobriety test when CHP Officers noticed his Mercedes Benz swerving into oncoming traffic lanes in a posh Southern California Malibu community.

After being arrested for drunk driving in September of 2002, Nolte tested negative for alcohol. Unable to provide details on what exactly was in Mr. Nolte's system, law enforcement officials later performed tests that showed he was under the influence of a potentially deadly, highly addictive, Schedule I narcotic known as GHB or Gamma-Hydroxybutyrate. GHB is a naturally occurring compound that has been used as a general anesthetic and as a hypnotic or recreationally as a potent intoxicant.

In October of 2002 California prosecutors issued misdemeanor GHB DUI drug charges against Nick Nolte. -- Resources: The Associated Press
