Field Sobriety Tests

Sometimes referred to as FST, exercises or observations, these are the tests administered usually at the time a peson suspected of DUI is pulled over by a law enforcement officer. Field Sobriety Tests include activities such as touching a finger to the nose, counting forward or backward an arbitrary number of time by ones, twos or threes verbally or on the fingers, reciting the alpahbet, walking a straight line, Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) and standing on one leg. Field Sobriety Tests are used by law enforcement officers as a screening process for those suspected of being intoxicated while operating a vehicle.
